For most of us a dessert must contain chocolate!!! If it’s quick to make and needs only few ingredients, then you’ll definitely make it.
I made this dessert for my name’s day, which happens to be on the New Year’s Day, so it was a special treat for me for the festive table. I wanted it something quick and simple, since the other meal courses took me hours to prepare, and preferred to have just one dessert for everyone that I could also eat!!! But who doesn’t love chocolate?
I will also make this particular dessert for Valentine’s Day, but will cut it in the shape of a heart. I will make fresh homemade hazelnut praline (see recipe here) and decorate it with whipped cream and raspberries or strawberries or any other red fruit I find that time of the year.
Tip: Check off the ingredients you have used in the recipe or note the ingredients you have and add the rest to you shopping list to buy them. - Attention: All ingredients must be checked that are Gluten-Free and without traces of gluten.
Abbreviations: g=grams • kg= kilograms • cup=250 ml • tsp= teaspoon=5 ml • tbsp= tablespoon=3 tsp=15 ml • ml= millilitre= (1ml=0.034 fl oz / 1fl oz=29.6 ml) • l=litre/liter=1000ml
Defrost the puff pastry according to the instructions on the box.
Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F.
Place parchment paper on a large oven tray and lay out one puff pastry. Don't mind if it breaks in some places because with baking it will come together and not be seen.
Spread homemade hazelnut praline or ready-made praline well on the puff pastry.
Place the other puff pastry on top and cut it into the desired shape.
If we want to make Christmas trees, look at the figure below that I give you. You will make 2 trees. Cut into strips to make it look more like the branches of the tree, but also will be easier to cut it into portions more easily after baking.
Beat an egg and brush the puff pastry on top.
Optionally sprinkle with brown sugar.
Bake at 180°C/350°F for about 20 minutes.
For an impressive effect before serving, sprinkle some icing sugar to make your trees look like they have snow.

- In addition to Schär’s Millefoglie puff pastry, you can make gluten-free crust sheets (see recipe here) yourself.
- If you are allergic to egg, then mix 1 tbsp. melted butter with 1 tbsp. milk to brush over it.
- Add chopped nuts to the filling if you wish.
Good Luck and Bon Appétit!!!
